Question:
Would the court order my child’s dad to pay his living costs in the United States?
Answer:
Article 78/1 of the UAE Personal Status Law provides that the Father has to financially support the boy until he finishes his education and the girl until she is married. Financial support includes education, food, clothes, medical insurance, housing, transportation, and other daily needs subject to the husband’s income. The wife can claim maintenance even if she did not apply for divorce. Temporary child support could be claimed till the case is decided as per Article 68 of the UAE Personal Status Law.
It is advisable to seek a consultation from a lawyer specializing in family matters in the UAE.
