Gang rapes and molestation are disturbingly appearing online yet those who have reported these incidents have not yet had much luck in accessing justice - even if the trauma and psychological consequences they lead to are very real. In an article published in The Media Line, Al Rowaad Advocates Managing Partner Hassan Elhais suggests UAE laws governing sexual assault could equally be applied to online formats – clarifying sexual assault is just as illegal in the virtual world as it is offline. However, he encourages the need for regulators to exist to govern online crimes in preparation for growing criminality that virtual worlds may give rise to.
